Tech:Noticeboard/Disabling PageForms on wikis with no usage

{{ {{Mbox|text=This page is a draft}} }} The PageForms extension has a history of performance problems and a large number of security vulnerabilities. In light of the multitude of issues with PageForms, the Technology Team is planning to reduce its usage on Miraheze, with the ultimate goal of a full removal.

This page documents the first planned step, which is to disable PageForms on all wikis that enabled the extension in the past but are not actively using it.

List of wikis#

If your wiki is on the list, the technology team will soon disable PageForms on the wiki. If your wiki is using PageForms but is not on this list, we still recommend migrating away from PageForms.

If you have any concerns, please respond in the #Discussion section.

Only public wikis are included. Private wikis are excluded from the list to not reveal any information about them.

Discussion#

NEWSECTIONLINK Please reply here. Note that unlike Tech:Noticeboard/Disabling_Cargo_on_wikis_with_no_Cargo_tables, we do not have an equivalent of PageForms. TemplateData coupled with VisualEditor and TemplateWizard’s template handling is perhaps the closest in terms of feature set. However, the “create page with form” workflow is missing. It could be replaced by other extensions that add boilerplate onto a page, but these do not offer equivalent functionality.

The technology team may be able to create solutions for the most needed features (e.g. automating migration from PageForms to TemplateData, a simple “create page from template” page, etc.). If there is a feature your wiki needs from PageForms, please comment below. We cannot make promises, but if there is enough demand we will try to make the transition as smooth as possible.
